Episode 132! In 1891, Octavia Hatcher fell into a deep depression after her only child died shortly after childbirth. A few months later she went into a coma and died. Due to it being an unusually hot spring, she was quickly buried. Several people in her town also went into similar comas but ended up making full recoveries, causing Octavia’s family to wonder if she might have been buried alive. Today we’ll examine the evidence supporting the belief that she might have been buried alive, the evidence suggesting this might be an urban legend, and what might have caused the sleeping sickness that Octavia suffered from and plagued others in her town.
