Episode 115! In 1999 the remains of a 20 year old beheaded boy were found in the Mexican temple of Aztec wind god Ehecatl. The boy was holding a ceramic skull in each hand. Initially dismissed as toys, they were later discovered to be instruments, now known as the Aztec Death Whistle due to their bone chilling terrifying sound, but their purpose is unknown. Today we’ll discuss some prevailing theories. Were they used ceremonially as part of human sacrifices? Maybe they were used to scare enemies during battle? Or could they have been used to heal the sick?
